Dehesa de los Canónigos

Fundada en 1988

Bodega Dehesa de los Canónigos was founded in 1988 by Luis Sanz Busto and his wife María Luz Cid. Although the estate had a longstanding viticultural tradition and had once formed part of the church’s agricultural holdings, it had not produced its own wines. With the establishment of the winery, a new chapter began—transforming the estate from a purely agricultural property into a winemaking project with its own identity within the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin.

History

Located in Pesquera de Duero (Valladolid), Dehesa de los Canónigos sits on a historic estate in the famed “Golden Mile” of Ribera del Duero—once owned by the clergy and now revived by the Sanz-Cid family to produce wines with a clear sense of place. Since the late 20th century, the winery has promoted precise, respectful viticulture, with Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) at its core and parcel-by-parcel vinification to capture the unique clay-limestone terroir. Tradition, careful vineyard selection, and ongoing technical improvements have cemented its reputation as a benchmark for quality in the region.

  • Verema Awards 2024 – Best Winery: honoured as the best winery within the DO Ribera del Duero
  • UEMC Foundation Award 2024 – A Lifetime Dedicated to Wine: awarded to Luis Sanz and María Luz Cid for their outstanding contribution to the wine sector
  • Duero de Honor Award 2021: presented to Luis Sanz during the Duero International Wine Fest for his transformative role in the winery and his close ties to Ribera del Duero
