Viña Somoza produces single-vineyard Godellos in Valdeorras, sourced from slate and granite hillside vineyards around A Rúa. The winery employs manual harvesting, hand selection on sorting tables, and lees ageing, with very restrained use of oak to preserve fruit purity and minerality. Labels such as Neno and As 2 Ladeiras reflect a tense, deep and distinctly Atlantic style.

History

The project has its roots in a winery established in A Rúa in the early 20th century, and was relaunched in the early 2000s with a focus on owning vineyards and small-batch vinifications. Native plots were recovered, and a philosophy of minimal intervention, controlled fermentation, and lees ageing was established — positioning Viña Somoza among the modern benchmarks of Valdeorras.
