Martín Códax

Fundada en 1986

Martín Códax is an emblematic cooperative from Rías Baixas, based in Cambados, primarily dedicated to Albariño. It works with over a thousand vineyard plots belonging to small growers, cultivated on granitic soils under a mild Atlantic climate. The winery combines manual harvesting, strict grape selection, and temperature-controlled fermentations, with lees ageing in both stainless steel and oak. Its wines stand out for their freshness, salinity, aromatic precision, and ageing potential.

History

Founded in 1986 by a group of winegrowers from Cambados, the cooperative took its name from the medieval troubadour Martín Códax, embracing cultural heritage as part of its identity. From the beginning, it aimed to elevate bottled Albariño and modernise viticulture in the Val do Salnés. Through consistent investment in R&D, wine tourism, and sustainability, it grew to become an international benchmark for the Rías Baixas denomination.
