Xagoaza (O Barco de Valdeorras), Ourense
Godeval
Fundada en 1986
Godeval is a winery in Valdeorras, specialising in white wines made from Godello, grown on slate slopes in Xagoaza, along the banks of the Sil River. The winery cultivates its own vineyards, many of them bush-trained and old vines, using manual harvesting and sorting at the winery. Fermentations are temperature-controlled, and wines are aged on fine lees, resulting in tense, mineral, and long-lived whites such as Godeval, Cepas Vellas, and Gran Godeval.
History
Founded in 1986, Adega Godeval was a driving force behind the revival of Godello in Valdeorras. It planted vineyards around the historic Monastery of Xagoaza and bottled some of the first modern single-varietal Godellos in the region. With a pioneering vision, the winery adopted cold fermentation technology and lees ageing techniques, while maintaining a family-run structure.
Today, Godeval exports to numerous countries and continues to preserve old vineyards that express the true identity of the Sil Valley.
